And the Red Forman Award of the Day goes to… Microsoft and/or Xbox!

I wasn’t pleased to see buried within all my emails a nasty little message from Microsoft that they were trimming the storage fat on their “cloud” servers. Yep OneDrive was reducing my space from like 30GB to 5GB. That’s right…FUCKING 5 GIGS. That’s the equivalent of my PC back in 95-96. That included discontinuing the 15 GB camera roll bonus that I had for automatically storing photos & vids from my Windows Phone.  As if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough. My Windows 8 device was starting to suck a little bit more as the tech monster company rolled out another version of their phone OS, Windows 10 to keep up the PC rollout version of Windows 10 not too long ago, which has come with nothing but headaches.

As for the rollout for my PC, after a few months I found out that my apps on my primary administrative profile stopped working. I tried numerous, useless fixes but after awhile, the store, calendar, calculator, email, picture viewer, music, & movies player were unable to be opened.  Well I found a way around it by adding another Outlook account to my PC & making that the admin. But it wasn’t without learning that all of the other accounts on my PC would suffer from minor glitches after trying to Google & YouTube any type of fix I could find.  Eventually I settled on having 2 admin accounts to serve me as one.

Oh and regarding my phone, turns out that when they pushed Windows phone 10, they pushed developers to move all the cool apps there & as of yet failed to update all the other devices (even the ones just released right before the new software) I am guessing that both Windows 8 & 10 required double the work to support or something techy.  Not to mention they barely integrated the use of SD cards in the newer phones, although they now require them, so my phone crashes nearly everyday.  To add injury to insult, several apps refused to update to the new platform whilst others simply decided to pull out from the Microsoft store altogether. So while my phone of barely a year runs shitty apps like Instagram BETA, (yes BETA) I now run the risk of losing all of my precious vids & pics by moving them to my PC because my SD card & phone have inner turmoil… It’s either that or have the MS OS douchebags liquidate my account for I am assuming I will be violating terms by not removing nearly 15 gigs of what I have stored now??

So normally what I do in times of stress since I can’t reach for a pack of Marlboros anymore, I workout! It’s healthy & good for me when I have the writer’s block.  So a few weeks ago I turn on the good ol’ Xbox One & find out about 2 weeks ago that Xbox was terminating Xbox Fitness.  In order to keep up with Sony PS4, they previously started selling the console & Kinect separately instead of in a bundle (this too unbeknownst to me) because apparently this happened right around the time I bought this expensive shit! Looking back, I was soooo happy & impressed with my weight loss from the 360 intertwined with my other workouts, that I decided as a gamer & fitness freak, I would get the ever so awesome & hyped up Xbox One. I played it Best Buy & Game stop and so my mind was set! Forget the PS4… I was going for the Xbox to try out the new fitness stuff.

Xbox Fitness debuted with Microsoft’s Xbox One & allowed gamers to download workouts so they can exercise from the comfort of their living room.  Since arriving in 2013, you were able to make a one-time purchase of the various workouts like Beachbody, Jillian Michaels, Sean T, P90X, Tai CHi, & Yoga and have access to the content indefinitely. No gym needed! An added bonus for paid Live members was that you could get free workouts.  But to my dismay, I found out that the Kinect sitting right above would be as good as a paperweight.

All workout content will officially be discontinued on July 1st, 2017. Those who have already paid will have access until then you won’t be able to make any fitness purchases from here on out.

According to Microsoft’s Marketing Coordinator and Community Manager for Xbox Fitness, Erica Bell, wrote, “Given the service relies on providing you with new and exciting content regularly, Microsoft has given much consideration to the reality updating the service regularly in order to sustain it. Therefore, the decision has been made to scale back our support for Xbox Fitness over the next year.”

Apparently, it’s too fucking complicated to keep up with the fitness needs of their consumers.  This DUMBASS must not know how booming the fitness industry is.  I still have DVDs I workout to & it’s faired great for me..  I don’t do the same workout anyway, so leaving a few fitness apps around until some revives the Kinect is the least they can do.  Although I gained some weight back being a desk jockey, I originally lost over 50lbs.  This below was me on diet & Xbox workouts alone on my 360, which I will be turning back to obviously. As you can see, I shed 15 lbs. in less than 2 months!

Weight Loss Journey 1st week

Just goes as a harsh reminder that you don’t actually “own” any fucking digital content bought from the Xbox store that’s not in your fucking hand. Case in point, songs I bought from Microsoft prior to change to Xbox Music to Groove or whatever the fuck, got lost in the madness. Claiming they no longer had access to those “albums” & they needed to be repurchased if not previously downloaded.

Fuck that shit! I got mp3skull! I am not paying for anything twice over!

Nonetheless, I recently saw that Xbox tried to put Band-Aids on their bullet wounds, as they released new workouts for free to use until next year. They even intend to offer so-called exchange-like refunds to us, “the sheep” in the form of Microsoft & Xbox store credit… good for about a year!

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!

It’s no wonder Bill Gates originally hated the idea of a gaming console when they pitched the Xbox idea a few years back. However given the success of the gaming industry, he caved & offered full support.

Can you say ca-Ching? What’s even more insane is that Mr. Gates gave Xbox some autonomy from Microsoft as it’s own little entity.  Yeah equipped with CEOs & the whole nine. I guess giving them room to make Xbox cheaper than PS4… with it’s fairly ok game selection.

So now what?

What would have been better is to just make one OS to take on both desktop and gaming at the same time. They should’ve fully fused their phones & tables to create an unstoppable force of nature. Leave third party members to building hardware for desktop, workstations, living room and of course allow the nerds to do they’re own custom techy tech. Microsoft has all the tools to dominate Apple and Sony, but they don’t know what they’re doing and Bill Gates got duped from the giddy-yup. Instead dominating fucking Skynet-style, we got all these stupid entities within an entity. If Xbox and Windows unified Microsoft would be a lot stronger and a lot the non-sense could be easily avoided.

Well I guess I shouldn’t be too upset. Machines will never take over the world & exterminate us Terminator-style nor will they imprison us Matrix-style. Especially if we gotta wait for someone to be smart enough to be dumb enough to create an self-aware/self-sustaining A.I.

Well I am no doctor or Zen master but I can say there are a few things I and we can do to get through it without a stroke or spontaneously combusting!

Well worry not because the things that stress you will be there regardless if you worry or not.  At least with the latter, you give yourself the opportunity to devise a plan to get away from your stressors!

It doesn’t have to be as pricey as a all-inclusive cruise. It can be a stroll, short drive (if gas level permits).

Ok if you’re like me… You probably wonder why you have issues losing or controlling your weight. Despite efforts at the gym… Good health is more than just cardio & weights, it’s a lifestyle change that needs to be hit on various fronts!

This is because your body has to fight more than calories, saturated fats & complex carbs; you also have to fend off toxins.

What are these toxins I’m talking about?

Your body is filled with cancer causing toxins that must be removed. These cancer causing devils can come from food/beverages we take in as well as the environment down to chemicals that are used to clean our homes and manufacture our food. Shit they are even in the air we breathe Even less tangible factors such as stress can be a detriment to us.

Here are some symptoms that may indicate you could be suffering from an overload of toxins! If that’s the case…then it’s time to detox!

craving sweet donut 1. Craving sugar or binge eating/drinking. Ok I’m not saying you can’t have a cheat-treat every now & again…hell I love my chocolate! But if you find yourself relying on sugary snacks all the time or just to get through the day, your body is not producing energy the way it should. You can boost your metabolism by cleaning out the liver.
Bloated-belly-from-periods 2. Bloating with gas or fluid retention. If you find yourself having to loosen your jeans all the time, unhealthy bacteria could be the culprit… That mess causes the gas to flux & thrive in a toxic body. If you’re retaining water, it’s because your organs in your body are trying to kick out all of the crap inside! It does it’s due diligence to dilute toxins in an effort to make their effects less harmful.

If you find yourself always in Starbucks paying for over priced lattes & not because the cashier working the coffee-machine-thingy is hot 😉… Then chances are toxins are weighing your body down…LITERALLY! Coffee, sodas, & energy drinks can actually add to your body’s toxicity! Your ass needs to clear out all that shit out of your body (no pun intended). The most invigorating drink you can give yourself is WATER.
mood swing pms 4. Mood swings & anxiety. If you’re being a complete bitch & flying off the handle for no reason, chances it could be more than PMS! Serotonin, the feel-good neurotransmitter, is made in our stomach. So when our bodies are toxic, serotonin production often decreases, allowing other parasitic toxins such as ammonia to take over. This can cause anxiety & even depression.

If you’re constantly suffering from migraines & headaches… It could be that toxins, parasites & even jacked up alkaline levels irritating the central nervous system. Stress overload can cause insulin & blood pressure spikes, which can be correlated to toxic build up.
Despite us “feeling” like we are individually different, each human is pretty much the same. We were designed with a purpose, meaning our internal workings respond to all things in a very specific way. Despite us acting stupid on impulses, instinctively we are very smart. Our bodies do their best to process toxins through our liver, kidneys, lungs, & skin. But with the overwhelming amount of toxins in the world, it can put your organs into serious OT! Making healthy choices will not only take stress off of our digestive, circulatory, and lymphatic systems, but will aid in removing this toxic build up.
Here are some tips to help us all get rid of toxins.
woman-eating-salad-healthy 1. EAT Whole, Nutrient-Dense Foods at least 80% of the time. It’s ok to indulge sometimes & have those cheat-treats but not everyday. Put down that donut & grab a damn apple!
Sweat_Workout 2. SWEAT at the gym or home. Get moving with more exercise. I can never stress how important working out is. It is the perfect date to good eating. Also sweating at the sauna is excellent for releasing toxins too.
greener smoothie 3. DRINK Organic Raw Green Juice Or Smoothies Everyday. They not only push toxins out of your fat stores, but to provide an abundance of enzymes, vitamins, minerals & phytochemicals. And not to be cheap here but I recommend making your own. Those bottled brands are cool on the go & the smoothie trucks are ok. But hidden within those supposedly healthy options are an insane amount of sugar & even corn syrup.
lemon detox water 4. START Your Day With Water & Lemon. Instead of coffee, lemon water can keep your body alkaline, loosen toxins in the digestive track, stimulate the liver and boost the immune system. Besides water is the best beverage you can put inside of you. If you feat damage to the enamel of your teeth, then the plain stuff will do. Water, although it sounds counterproductive, actually aides in fluid retention & bloating by helping your body flush the toxins that cause it the 1st place.
meditation 5. MEDITATE during some quiet time. This is probably one of the least talked about detox functions. Whether it’s prayer, time alone in a quiet spa or even a quiet chat with a therapist. Removing stress by a detox to your spirit/chi releases all those bad vibes by calming your soul & realigning your cognitive thinking. Trust me, it’ll help alleviate cardiovascular, sexual, mental & gastrointestinal issues. If we would recharge our bodies like we do our phone batteries, we would be A-ok!

What Exactly is the New You?

Every year we make resolutions to change something or another about ourselves.  We make promises to lose weight, gain wealth or overall make better choices to be happy. But does any of it work? I mean are we promising ourselves or kidding ourselves? Ask yourself this, who and how are you since the last “New Year” commenced?  Did you become the version of you that you set out to be? Or did these claims of new resolutions go out the window?

I think we as humans are always looking for a means of self-improvement and a way to attain the best out of life.  But if what you are trying to reach is coming from a place of self-pity and not self-respect… Do you think that your resolution will become another broken promise?

It’s not that we don’t know any better or that we shouldn’t want to improve on ourselves… it’s just that we don’t fully commit or understand what it actually means to commit.  We want the benefit of the rewards without putting in the effort or work! We want the magic weight loss, the lottery size paycheck, the magical relationship/marriage all wrapped in a pretty bow!

But there is no magic pill… Just the sweat of hard work & will power to eat right. You want a successful relationship that will lead to a magical wedding… Well look for like minded individuals instead of booty calls & one nighters. Do you want the guy/girl only looking for a good time? Or the one looking to build a future? And as far as finances go… If you want a nest egg for the future! Spend less! Save more! Take part of that big tax refund & open up a retirement fund or savings with interest.

Whatever your resolution… If you want to see it come to life, you have to make it work! Don’t leave it to chance or luck! Don’t tackle it all at once! Take a no holds barred approach one day at a time! Don’t force it! Rome wasn’t built in a day… You won’t be rebuilt in one day either! Slow progress IS progress!

Commit to it! Work for it! 💪👍

Update on my Battle of the Bulge (Getting in Shape)

Hey all…

Weight Loss Journey 1st week
(Last year 2013)

It’s been about a year since I began to spearhead my battle of losing weight! For the better part of a decade I have struggled with my weight immensely. Losing, gaining and  gaining some more!  Suffice to say, the shit was hard and has been hard. I mean there’s tracking food/calorie/carb intake and working out to following simple rules regarding when and when you shouldn’t eat, sleep, etc.  Also throw in some genetic dispositions that make you predisposed to gaining weight and stress itself… well then you have found yourself being not only overweight again but falling off the fitness wagon!

To all of that I said to myself: SHUT THE HELL UP AND GET OFF YOUR ASS! STOP MAKING EXCUSES AND START KEEP MAKING PROGRESS!

I had bad days & busy days, I skipped workouts, ate like shit but at the end of it all,  I found a reason to get back up & at it! I lost weight, gained back, wanted to give up, got discouraged, hell I even faced physical injury (not related to workout/exercise…but from sheer clumsiness on top of an old college-sports injury). But I looked at how far I came and said it would not only be stupid to give up but it would be selfish to all the people I had inspired with my story!

I was not going to sit here and treat this fitness thing, which became my new lifestyle become a fad.

I tried new and different ways to workout, eat right, etc. all the while on a budget! From the Wii to the Xbox Kinect to walking/jogging to pole dance and cardio classes. I found ways to keep moving!

The point of it was to not give up! Hell, even if you want to or feel discouraged, trust me you’re right on track!  I got so motivated I made a fitness group on Facebook! To some I may have seem hyped or overzealous but it was because I was proud of my progress! I may have not hit that 100lb mark I set last year but I still lost 50lbs overall!

But that wasn’t the kicker. I recently had been going through pictures I was tagged in on Facebook, more so the ones on my mother’s page. I didn’t know if or when she would disable it so I figured I save a few to my phone… besides Thursday was on the rise so I needed a throwback! LOL

Man was I dumb-shocked.

Looking back 3 plus years ago to when I was 30 years old…I  didn’t how big I was & how much progress I had actually made. And it was all because I didn’t give up! I had to keep pushing and not get feel discouraged by the results I thought I couldn’t see immediately. Why because if you’re consistent, you’re making progress. There was not going to be any punishing myself for anything…even if I felt as if I caved! Because the person who truly gives up is the person who never tries again. I workout because I love my body not because I hate it! Anytime I felt like I was pissed off, sad or what have you, I took it out on my workout (if not my writing)!

Getting in Shape (THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE)

Hey…It’s your favorite insomniac! Back from a 30 day sabbatical. And ready to update you on the likes of yours truly!

These last few years, I found myself struggling with my weight. From weight gain/loss to just not making the time to workout. Well since March, I’ve made damn sure that I’d find the time to workout.

Why?

Because with my family’s health history that included heart disease and diabetes, being 300 lbs was actually scaring the shit out of me. One day I got on the scale and nearly cried. It was then that I knew I needed to make some changes.  So I made a promise to myself to overall change the way I ate, exercised and thought about my health…basically everything!

I started with taking a picture of myself. I set a goal to lose 100 lbs in a year. But I knew that there would be pitfalls and setbacks so I set mini 4-week goals to shed in the range least 5-10 lbs. I started eating more fruit/veggies, canned the late night munching (even when up late writing), increased my water intake and downloaded a calorie app and most importantly, started working out!

Not only have I saw a dramatic change in my phsyique but my mood & energy levels have been at optimum levels!

Weight Loss Journey 1st week

It’s been a tough journey so far with pitfalls but I kept at it. With the mini goals I had set, I weighed in & measure myself every 4 weeks. I eliminated a lot of harmful things from my diet as well. The calorie counter app that I have tracks not just what I eat but my exercise activity and how hard I am pushing myself.  It helps because I know when to workout more when I go over my calorie intake. And I didn’t do any extreme dieting. I also swtich up my exercise patterns for optimum results by rotating cardio with strength or weight training. Getting in shape is no easy task but it is well worth it.

Some other things that have been good to know was that throughout my social networking, I’ve made friends with those who are either in shape or fighting the battle of the bulge along with me. That to me was the most gratifying because sometimes you need the push.  Especially when you don’t feel like working out.  I’ve even tried pole dancing! Yup my fat ass has been hopping on a pole and working my entire body from head to toe! 🙂

So far I’ve lost about 30 lbs, 5% of my body fat and shed 3 inches off of my waist, hips & thighs as well as 2 inches off of my arms. My clothes are fitting loser and I must say I am loving the results as well as myself more and more each day. On another note, this weight-loss has not only changed me on the outside but on the inside. I am feeling better about myself and if it wasn’t possible already, more confident. I mean it’s funny when you start to become aware of the foods & things you put in your body, you become aware of the other bullshit too that’s detrimental too…like people! If you’re not gonna settle on your health choices, why settle on matters of the heart!
